We have established a robust CSER framework focusing on five strategic drivers to ensure we make a real and sustainable difference. We call these our CSER ‘pillars’ they are environment, responsible sourcing, health & nutrition, community, and our people.
Our CSER strategy, management and impact are evaluated using Business in The Community's Corporate Responsibility Index for benchmarking and comparative analysis. This is the UK's leading voluntary benchmarking framework for CR. We joined Business in The Community in 2010, and in April 2011 were awarded a Silver CR Index ranking, the highest ranking for a new entrant in the history of the framework. We are delighted to have progressed to a Gold ranking in the 2012 CR Index, the results of which were published in the Financial Times on 15th March 2012.
Following our attainment of BS: EN ISO 14001 in October 2008, we were recently successfully audited and re-certified to this standard for a further 3 years up to October 2014. ISO 14001 is an internationally recognised standard for environmental performance awarded to companies that comply with all aspects of current legislation concerning the environment and who can demonstrate initiatives that decrease their environmental impact.
Our progress with regard to environmental issues is particularly striking when taking into consideration the significant growth of our business both organically and through acquisitions over recent years. As the business grows we continue to reduce our energy consumption and through economies of scale and improvements in systems and processes we limit our fuel and packaging consumption.
