The Brakes Group is proud to have won a number of prestigious awards in recognition of the work our people have done to protect the environment and support the communities we serve.
Business in the Community’s Corporate Responsibility Index 2012
Brakes Group UK have achieved Gold in 2012’s Corporate Responsibility Index (CRI), the UK’s leading voluntary benchmark of corporate responsibility. Progressing from the Silver awarded in 2011 and a ‘highest scoring’ status, the results were published by Business in the Community (BITC) in the Financial Times on 15 March 2012.
The CRI helps companies to integrate and improve corporate responsibility throughout their operations, by providing a systemic approach to managing, measuring and reporting on business impacts in society and on the environment.
ISO14001 Accreditation
In 2011 we were reaccredited by ISO14001 for a further three years. We first attained this internationally recognised standard for environmental performance for all our UK sites, in 2008. It is awarded to companies that comply with all aspects of current legislation concerning the environment and who can demonstrate initiatives to decrease their environmental impact. Green Wholesaler of the Year
Brakes Group has won the Green Wholesaler of the Year at the Grocer Gold Awards 2011. This award has recognised the success of our ambitious CSER strategy and ongoing programmes and the huge steps the Organisation has taken to protect tomorrow, today.
Transport & Logistics Awards 2011
Brakes Republic of Ireland is proud to have been awarded the Temperature Controlled Best Practice Award at the Export and Freight annual awards.
Fleet Safety Forum Awards 2011
At the Awards for Excellence in Road Risk Management Brakes were awarded the Innovation Award for Excellence. The award was in recognition of the development of a ‘mirror check station' the first in the UK for the correct mirror settings on commercial vehicles. The mirror check ensures that Drivers side mirror visibility is at it's maximum, blind spots are greatly reduced, therefore increasing road safety for both our drivers and members of the general public.
BVCA Awards 2011
The British Private Equity and Venture Capital Association (BVCA) awarded Brakes Group with the Portfolio Company Award Winner South East Region for Environmental, Social and Governance Management Team of the Year.
The Green Organisation Green Apple Award Environment Best Practice
Food and Drink Category Gold Winner in the annual international campaign to recognise, reward and promote environmental best practice around the world
Hollis Sponsorship Awards 2011
Brakes Group won the Charity, Community and Environment category at the Hollis Sponsorship Awards 2011. The award, which Brakes shares with charity partner FareShare, recognises the company’s work in reducing food waste by redistributing ‘surplus food’ to homeless and vulnerable people in Britain.
Foodservice Footprint Awards 2011
Foodservice Footprint awarded Brakes Group its Environmentally Efficient Logistics award. The honour is testament to Brakes impressive environmentally efficient logistics strategy and achievements which in the last year alone this has removed one million kilometres road miles and eliminated 442,000 kilograms of CO2.
Institute of Grocery Distribution Food Industry Awards 2011
IGD bestowed Brakes Group with the coveted Unilever Community Award at the IGD Food Industry Awards 2011. Judges were impressed with Brakes charity partnership with FareShare, which has resulted in over 80,000 meal equivalents a month being donated to those in need through its UK depot network, and which has diverted over 324 tonnes of food waste away from landfill.
Environmental, Social and Governance Management Team of the Year 2010
Brakes Group is proud to have won the Environmental, Social and Governance Management Team of the Year award at the British Venture Capital and Private Equity Association Portfolio Company Awards.
The Green Business Awards 2010 – Gold
Brakes Group won gold in the Green Champions (Suppliers) category at The Green Business Awards 2010. This coveted award is testament to the groups sustainable and environmental achievements over the past year, highlighting our passion and dedication to introducing green changes into our business.
Corporate Responsibility Award
Brakes Group won the 2008 National Business Awards, Corporate Responsibility Award. The judges were impressed how our clear business strategy is underpinned by a total commitment to corporate responsibility and how our policies and achievements help to minimise the impact the business has on the environment and on supporting the communities we serve.
Green Wholesaler of the Year
We were named as the 2008 Best Green Wholesaler at The Grocer Gold Awards. Winning this award underlines our commitment to delivering excellence to our customers in a responsible manner.
Green Tourism Award
Beacon presented Brakes with this prestigious award. The Green Tourism Award recognised Brakes as an exemplary business that actively seeks to reduce the negative environmental and social impacts of their operations, and particularly how they impact tourism.
Sustainable Future Award
M&J Seafood won the Sustainable Future Award in 2009, recognising our commitment to responsible sourcing, sustainability and the environment and acknowledging our team’s dedication to sustainable sourcing of seafood.
Hollis Award
The 2009 Hollis Award for charity and community partnership was given in recognition of our sponsorship of the Royal Parks Foundation Half Marathon, which has raised millions of pounds for charity.
National Training Awards
Brakes Group is proud to have won the National Training Award in 2008, Regional Training Award, for our work relating to the Brakes Group Sales Academy.
ROSPA Gold Award
Brakes Group was awarded the ROSPA Gold Award in 2008 in recognition for health and safety.
