Our stakeholders

We recognise that in order to deliver an industry-leading and highly effective Corporate, Social & Environmental Responsibility (CSER) strategy we must understand the needs of our various stakeholders. They are becoming increasingly interested in how we are developing and delivering a sustainable and responsible business philosophy.

Our key stakeholders are:

Our customers

We work closely with our customers to understand their corporate, social and environmental responsibility strategies and to support them in the delivery of their agreed commitments. We aim to share and replicate best practice wherever and whenever possible. We report our progress in ways bespoke to our major customers’ requirements and ensure we communicate with all our customers via our published brochures, booklets and on our various company websites.

Our people

We work closely with our people to develop and deliver the Brakes Group CSER strategy and commitments. We understand the importance of involving our people, inspiring them and helping them to contribute to our overall goals with regard to safeguarding the future. We keep our people informed through local champions, meetings, our intranet site, various publications and our company websites.

Our communities

With over 80 sites across the UK, France, Sweden and the Republic of Ireland and thousands of suppliers worldwide we are able to have a positive influence on millions of people. We are committed to support the communities we serve. We know we have the potential to make a real difference to millions of people’s lives.

Our owners

We believe that CSER not only ensures we are a healthy and sustainable business but also will lead to greater profitability for the company over time. Doing the right thing makes us more efficient and saves limited resources.

The business community

Brakes Group believe it is important that the way we do business with regard to environmental, social and ethical matters is independently assessed. We want to be recognised as a business that is publically committed to sustainable business practices. We work with Business in the Community and a number of other non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and other organisations such as such as the School Food Trust (SFT), Food Standards Agency, (FSA), Institute of Grocery Distribution (IGD), British Frozen Food Federation (BFFF), Federation of Wholesale Distributors (FWD) and FareShare.

Suppliers

Brakes Group is committed to trading fairly, ensuring everyone in our supply chain is treated with honesty, fairness and respect at all times. Responsible sourcing is central to all our procurement decisions. We work closely with all our suppliers and encourage them to adopt sustainable business practices and to support our key CSER initiatives wherever possible. We encourage all Brakes Group own brand suppliers to have Higher Level British Retail Consortium (BRC) Accreditation or an equivalent accreditation.
