The Brakes Group is proactive and responsive to changes in nutritional thinking, government legislation and consumer demands.

We have maintained a Health, Nutrition and Wellbeing Department since 1985.

This team have been engaged with the Department of Health since the publication of the Public Health Responsibility Deal in March 2011 as part of the on-going work we undertake to support Government public health initiatives.  Having led the foodservice industry and already removed artificial transfats from our own label products in 2008, we have signed the transfats pledge in a clear demonstration of our commitment to the overall Responsibility Deal objectives for improving people’s health.

We are committed to taking a leading position in the foodservice sector to help improve health and nutrition for consumers through the provision of a wide range of food and menu solutions. We will continue to be a comprehensive source of advice and expertise to support our customers’ needs and encourage healthy and balanced dietary choices. We constantly seek range extension opportunities for our Healthier Choices and Smartcrumb ranges.

Some of our commitments:

We are committed to ensuring that fruit and vegetables feature in our monthly promotional activity to highlight their importance in recipes and menus and to encourage our customers to purchase them.

From 2010, we committed to provide nutrition information for recipes in all future publications and on our websites.

We are committed to extending 5-a-day labelling onto all appropriate products.

We will undertake customer surveys to corporate and independent customers about their nutrition advice requirements.

Since the publication of the Public Health Responsibility Deal in March 2011 our Health and Nutrition team have engaged with the Department of Health as part of our commitment to support Government public health initiatives.

We will encourage healthier menus through the provision of a wide choice of food options and review our Healthier Choices range to ensure it continues to meet the evolving food and menu requirements of our customers.
