Responsible and sustainable sourcing is central to all our procurement decisions and we have an Ethical Sourcing Code of Practice that must be adhered to at all times.
We never forget that we are a long-term customer to hundreds of our suppliers and we have the opportunity to work in partnership to make a real difference to people’s lives and the environment.
Our supplier assessment programme and scorecard ensures that we are constantly reviewing performance while treating supplies in an objective, fair and open manner. This process ensures that our commercial teams are constantly engaging with our supplies and understand the issues they face. Suppliers can check their scorecard online.
The vast majority of Brakes own brand suppliers are registered to Higher Level British Retail Consortium (BRC) Accreditation. We support all suppliers and their labour providers in complying with the Gangmasters Licensing Act 2004.
Through our close dealings and partnerships with a worldwide network of producers and manufacturers we are able to offer our customers over 40,000 product lines across Europe through our family of specialist businesses. Our highly experienced commercial team knows that we work with our suppliers, they don’t work for us. Together we can source outstanding products whilst maintaining mutually beneficial commercial relationships and helping them to create and maintain responsible businesses and long term employment for their staff.
